Château La Tour de By

Background

Prior to 1876, Chateau La Tour de By was called La Roque de By. Vines have been grown here for several centuries. Pierre TIZON, Lord of the Fief of By, owned the estate in 1599. It stayed in his family until 1725, at which time it was purchased by Count Louis DE GRAMONT. Monsieur DE LIGNAC acquired La Tour de By in 1860, and it passed into the hands of Monsieur Alfred RUBICHON in 1860. The latter proprietor built the present chateau in 1876. This building overlooks the Gironde Estuary.

M. Julien DAMOY later bought Chateau La Tour de By and died there in 1942. In December 1965, Messrs. PAGES, LAPALU, and CAILLOUX took over the estate. Marc PAGES and his children became sole owners in June 1999. The "tour" - or tower - a former lighthouse constructed in 1825 on the ruins of a windmill, overlooks both the vines and the estuary.

Marc PAGES and his son Xavier possess also Château Noillac in JAU-DIGNAC-LOIRAC
